Q:  Do I need to bring anything to the workshop?

A:   Just paper and a pen.

Q:  I've never done any creative writing before. Are these workshops for me?

A:   Most classes and courses are mixed-level and writers of all levels and experience are welcome. For some course, such as our Advanced Fiction Workshops, we will ask to see a sample of your writing to make sure that it's the right course for you. 

Q:  How do the online sessions work?

A:   On receipt of payment, we'll send the Zoom link for the session. If you can arrive a minute or two early, we'll be able to make a prompt start. The session will usually be a combination of writing and discussion, sometimes going into breakout rooms.

Q:  Do I need to have my camera turned on?

A:  Yes, please! When we do the exercises, you are welcome to turn it off. However, for discussion, it's better for our sense of community if we can all see each other. If possible, please sit in a well-lit place.

Q: What if I have to cancel my booking? 

A: We're sorry but refunds are not possible for one-off sessions. With at least 24 hours' notice, we should be able to transfer your booking to another session.

 

If you have to cancel your place on WRITING A NOVEL, WRITING FROM LIFE or ADVANCED FICTION WORKSHOP after the given payment date, fees will only be refunded if we are able to fill the course (in which case we will refund 80% of the fee). If a similar course is running at a later date, it may be possible to transfer the full fee to that course but at least three weeks' notice should be given. If you have to leave the course once it has started, no refund will be made.

Q: What if Pebble Beach has to cancel a session?

A: If we have to cancel a session or course we will, of course, provide a full refund. Where possible we will try to run any cancelled events on another date and offer the option of transferring the original booking to this date.

 

On some courses, it may be preferable to use a substitute tutor rather than cancel or postpone a class through tutor illness. In this event, only tutors with suitable qualifications and experience will be considered. 

Q: What is the payment method?

A:  You can pay by debit or credit card or PayPal. For one-to-one tuition and longer courses, there is also an option to pay by BACS.

Q: For one-to-one tuition, how far in advance should I submit my work?

A: For work of 5,000 words or above, please assume a period of 2 weeks between submission and feedback meeting (a shorter gap will often be possible). For writers doing the beginner's package, we'll work out the time frame for this in our initial chat.
