Advanced Fiction Workshop

9-week Course with Susanna Jones
1st October – 3rd December 2022
Brighton

Course Information:
Saturdays, 11am–1pm

1st October – 3rd December (no class on 5th November)
Venue: Brighton Girls GDST, Montpelier Road BN1 3AT
Course fee: £350
The course will run with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 participants.
The fee includes a 30-minute one-to-one tutorial.

This is an MA-style workshop for writers who want to make serious progress with their writing project in a supportive and engaging environment. Participants' writing, submitted in advance each week, will form the basis of the sessions and you will receive detailed editorial feedback on your work. This means you will also spend time reading the work of fellow participants and honing your editorial skills.

The first session will be an introductory one. Thereafter, two participants will submit up to 5,000 words of fiction a week in advance of each session. Everyone will have the opportunity to submit 10,000 words during the course (depending on numbers, this may be organised differently and there may be an opportunity to submit more than this). If you prefer, your second submission could be a revised version of the first – a great way to focus on developing technique and learning how to use feedback when you rewrite and edit. You will also have a one-to-one tutorial with Susanna via Zoom.

If you're interested in taking part or would like to find out more, get in touch. If you haven't done a Pebble Beach Writing course before, we will ask to see a few pages of your writing.

Full payment for the course is due by 9th September. After this, refunds cannot be made unless we are able to fill all course places, in which case we will refund of 80% of the fee.

'Susanna was my tutor on the MA and I looked forward to her class every week. Her feedback was always spot on and encouraged me to reflect on my writing in new ways and dig a little deeper. Susanna is one of those rare breeds of people who both excels at her craft but is able to pass on her knowledge and years of experience in an engaging way. She is just a brilliant tutor and I can't recommend her highly enough.'   Nora G.

'Susanna Jones was an outstanding lecturer on my MA course in creative writing. Her books were one of the reasons that I chose the course. She provided clear and helpful teaching on how to produce the best writing, together with incisive critical feedback. Being such a talented author herself gave her a unique insight into the most effective ways to encourage budding writers. I have no doubt that my work measurably improved as a result of her efforts.'
