Writing from Life (online)
8-week course
Summer Term 2026
8-week course (Zoom).
Fridays, 2.15 – 4.00pm
April 17 – June 6th.
4 – 6 participants
Fee: £275
Perhaps you’re working on a memoir, want to record family stories, or would like to write about experiences in order to understand them better. You might simply want to develop your writing skills using material that’s meaningful to you.
This course is open to writers of all levels, from beginners to those already working on longer projects. You’ll be able to work at your own pace and develop your writing in a way that suits you.

Each session includes writing prompts, exercises and discussion to explore craft and technique, alongside feedback on the writing you do during the week. The prompts can help you start new work or deepen something you’re already writing.
You’ll have time to write, ask questions and experiment with ideas as your work develops week by week. You might use the course to work towards a longer project such as a memoir, or to complete a number of stand-alone pieces.

There is no pressure to share your writing if you prefer not to. The aim is to provide a relaxed, supportive environment in which to develop your ideas and your craft. The group is small (4 – 6 participants) to allow plenty of individual attention.

Susanna Jones has many years’ experience teaching and mentoring writers, from beginners to those studying at MA and PhD level. She will help you find new ways into your material, develop and shape your writing, and strengthen your own voice.

Please note: If you are writing about very personal experiences, you may not always feel comfortable sharing your work with the group. There is never any obligation to read aloud during sessions, but it can be helpful to consider how you’d like to approach sensitive material. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
'Susanna is a brilliant creative writing teacher and mentor who is now mentoring me through my second book. She has that rare capacity to pinpoint exactly what works and doesn’t work in a piece of writing, and why.'
Hilary S.

'Susanna's artful teaching method helps you get those words down on the page with no pain or shame. Inspiring!'
